ALIF Definition

What is ALIF?

ALIF stands for Anterior Lumbar Interbody Fusion. It is a type of spinal fusion surgery that is performed on the lower back to treat conditions such as degenerative disc disease, spinal stenosis, and spondylolisthesis. During the procedure, the surgeon removes the damaged disc in the spine and replaces it with a bone graft. The bone graft is then held in place with metal screws or rods until it fuses with the adjacent vertebrae. ALIF is a commonly performed procedure and can be an effective treatment option for those suffering from lower back pain.
